Instructions for Online Classes

Joining an Online Class

You can view our schedule of upcoming online classes here.

To join a class, click on the link in your confirmation or reminder email.

On your computer: You will be asked to either download the Zoom application, or join directly from your browser. Please note that it might not work properly in some browsers; we recommend using Google Chrome.

On a mobile device: You will be prompted to download the free Zoom app.

Click ‘Join with video‘ and ‘Call using internet audio

When you first join, you will be able to see and hear the teacher and she will be able to see and hear you.

To mute yourself, find the microphone icon in the bottom left corner of the screen (on your mobile device; in a browser it will be at the top of the screen). If you don’t see it, you may need to tap on your screen to bring up the control bar. Clink on the microphone and you will see a red line through it. This means you are on mute. To unmute yourself, click on the microphone again and the red line will disappear.

As the class is about to start, all participants will be muted so you will only be able to hear the teacher but not other participants, and they won’t be able to hear you.

Once the class is over, participants will be unmuted again.

Helpful Hints

If your connection is choppy or if you don’t want to be seen while you practise, you can turn your video off. You will still see your teacher! Just as with muting the microphone, find the video camera icon in the bottom left corner of the screen (on mobile device; top in a browser) right beside the microphone icon. Tap once to turn off (red line) and tap again to turn back on.

There are two options for viewing: gallery and active speaker. Gallery is fun prior to class to see the sangha; during class you want to switch to ‘active speaker’ so you can see your teacher well. Gallery and active speaker option is on the top left side of the screen if using an iPad and if using an iPhone you can simply swipe left to change the view.
